To all General Data Team Members, Customers, and Vendors:
Today is a very sad day for us all at General Data. I have the very sad duty to report the passing of Mrs. Mary Jane Rourke of Carnagie PA.
Mary Jane was the very 1st Team Member at GDC, coming to work in 1981. She had worked with me at another firm, but took a chance to work for a start-up in the basement of my house. Mary Jane was very instrumental in making GDC what it is today and helping me “keep it together” in the very early years. She was “My Girl Friday” and did everything imaginable including agreeing or disagreeing about my choices in girlfriends and eventual wife Kate (MJ approved!).
When GDC headquarters moved from Pittsburgh to Cincinnati in 1994, MJ stayed behind to run the Pittsburgh office and take charge of corporate Accounts Receivable. A challenging job; chasing money, checking credits, fixing messes, and keeping salespeople and customers on an even keel.
She always had a smile, good words to say about others, and always worried about everyone else but herself. Having endured health challenges for decades and losing the love of her life, Bill Rourke several years ago, she easily could have been the poster child for someone who spent their time feeling sorry for them self. Not MJ, she volunteered and always wanted to help others. She was always an upbeat person. She was my best friend for years and I will miss her dearly. The GDC family misses her.
I can’t state how lucky I have been to have known and been helped by MJ so many times over these years. She is now at peace and reunited with Bill. The only one who may be slightly miffed is Mother Theresa, as she now has some competition in Heaven.
Rest in Peace
